Check out our work from a 2023 project in the La Sal Mountain Range just East of Moab, Utah. During this project, our team reconstructed a 40x60 timber frame barn originally reclaimed from a small town in central Indiana. We crafted a 20x20 custom hand-hewn dovetail cabin out of sleeper beams reclaimed from a bank barn and also restored a log saddle shed original to the property.

In Markle, Indiana, we found a 40x60 white oak timber barn from the 1860s. We carefully took it apart, measuring and tagging each beam. This way, we know exactly where each beam and post goes during reconstruction. We also make drawings on-site, which we use later to create precise plans for our team during the restoration process.
Once deconstructed, we shipped the 40x60 Gunstock Frame back to our shop in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Upon unloading, we sorted, removed nails, and power washed all the timbers to remove years of dirt and grime. Once the beams are clean, we inspect each one for defects, rot, or damage. We noted over 50 repairs for this frame. After creating a full list of tasks, we begin repairing what can be fixed and replacing the rest with era-authentic timbers. By the time we're done, the frame is ready to stand strong for another 100 years.
Upon completion of the restoration work, we shipped the fully restored Gunstock barn frame to Moab, Utah, along with all the other reclaimed materials our client ordered. Once there, we unloaded the materials and started assembling the frame on the ground using white oak wooden pegs. After constructing the frame on the ground, we used a telehandler to lift it up one bent (or wall) at a time. Once the frame was set, we installed the rough sawn rafters, siding, custom-milled flooring, loft floor joists, and reclaimed threshing floor. The 40x60 original vintage barn frame now stands tall as a central structure along with two other reclaimed cabins on this already impressive ranch.

This mix of direct sourcing and trusted partnerships ensures every piece of wood contributes to the beauty and durability of our projects.
We're proud to serve our awesome clients across the United States. We're committed to bringing the beauty and history of reclaimed timber to homes and businesses nationwide.
